Abstract

El objetivo de este ensayo es mostrar las relaciones hispano portuguesas en unos momentos críticos en la construcción del Estado Novo y el impacto que produjo en Portugal la instauración de la II República española. La sincronía vivida entre los regímenes internos en Portugal y España durante las dictaduras militares, se derrumba de golpe con la caída de Primo de Rivera y la instauración de un régimen republicano al otro lado de la frontera. Portugal lo percibe con alarma y como un peligro para el Estado Novo y la independencia nacional. Con el triunfo del Frente Popular se toma conciencia de la imposibilidad de convivencia dentro del suelo ibérico de dos sistemas políticos no solo antagónicos sino también irreconciliables.
