Abstract

La Guerra de la Independencia española anticipó alguno de los elementos de la guerra total propia del siglo xx, singularmente el del trato a los prisioneros de guerra. El presente texto es una reconstrucción microhistórica de las circunstancias del itinerario seguido por los defensores de Ciudad Rodrigo en su deportación a la Francia Imperial en 1810-1811, así como de las condiciones de vida de estos prisioneros de guerra en los campos de trabajo de la región de la desembocadura del Escalda, donde muchos de ellos estuvieron confinados de 1811 a 1814. Finalmente, se comparan los casos de Amberes y Flesinga, que apuntaron dos sistemas de gestión parcialmente diferentes de tales campos.
