La concertación social, como sinónimo de acuerdo sobre las condiciones de trabajo entre patronales y sindicatos, en el marco de representación del Estado, es un término que la Sociología ha venido utilizando, en el ámbito del Estado del Bienestar, como antagonista del conflicto, que remite a una idea genérica de contractualismo que se pone en relación con el funcionamiento democrático de las sociedades avanzadas. Los orígenes de la concertación social son, sin embargo, muy anteriores, y en ellos se encuentran muchas de las claves que nos permiten comprender su significado actual.
