Ramsar Advisory Missions - A mechanism to respond to change in ecological character of Ramsar Sites

Abstract

Policy Brief 3, prepared by the Scientific and Technical Review Panel (STRP) of the Convention on Wetlands, provides guidance for integrating Ramsar Advisory Missions (RAMs) into national decision-making to help countries address actual or potential changes in the ecological character of Wetlands of International Importance. The brief outlines the essential actions Contracting Parties should take to harness RAMs as an effective, treaty-backed technical assistance mechanism—supporting early response to threats, strengthening multi‑stakeholder engagement, and enhancing capacity for the wise use and long-term conservation of wetlands.
