This article outlines the theoretical principles and practical implementation of Space Vector Modulation (SVM) for two-level and three-level inverters. As a highly efficient alternative to traditional carrier-based modulation, SVM operates in the stationary Clarke reference frame. It synthesizes a reference voltage by calculating the precise dwell times of adjacent active and zero space vectors, utilizing optimal switching patterns to actively minimize switching losses. Furthermore, the note details output voltage saturation methods designed to prevent overmodulation and mitigate integrator wind-up in closed-loop current controllers. Designed using Imperix's ACG SDK for Simulink, the modulation algorithm is experimentally validated on a rapid control prototyping setup (B-Box RCP) driving phase-leg power modules. Tests conducted on an RL load demonstrate fast, independent tracking of d-axis and q-axis currents along with robust perturbation rejection.
