Narrativas islamófobas y orientalistas en los medios de comunicación costarricenses: un análisis desde la geopolítica popular

Abstract

La investigación realiza un análisis de contenido exploratorio sobre cómo los medios de comunicación costarricenses han retratado al islam y las comunidades musulmanas en el país desde la perspectiva de la geopolítica crítica y la geopolítica popular. Se realiza este análisis de contenido tanto en medios de prensa digital como televisivos, lográndose identificar un total de 159 notas de prensa, que en su mayoría reproducen discursos simplificadores del islam, articulando una imaginación geopolítica coincidente con los intereses de grupos de poder nacionales, así como con la proyección de poder global de Estados Unidos luego de los atentados del 11 de septiembre de 2001. Los medios estudiados, en una reproducción de narrativas reduccionistas, orientalistas e islamófobas, describen a las comunidades en el país como algo exótico y exógeno, no perteneciente a la pluralidad y multiculturalidad constituyente de la identidad nacional costarricense según su propia constitución política.
