The article deals with the problem of the differences in the leisure time of men and women with children using two perspectives towards the leisure time – leisure time as value and leisure time as remainder. The aim is not only to identify the extent of these differences but also to discover key narratives and experiences related to leisure times as value. While the results from the Time use study conducted in 2001/2002 reveal the considerable disadvantage of mothers with regards to the availability of leisure time, the research with qualitative methods shows the ways by which the leisure time deficit is connected to differences in the pace and structure of the “male” and “female” time.
