Abstract

Introducción: El trastorno del espectro autista (TEA) es un trastorno del neurodesarrollo de etiología multifactorial cuya prevalencia mundial ha registrado un incremento sostenido en las últimas décadas. El diagnóstico temprano y las intervenciones multidisciplinarias son determinantes para el pronóstico de las personas afectadas. Sin embargo, persisten brechas significativas de conocimiento entre los estudiantes de medicina en formación preclínica. Materiales y métodos: Estudio exploratorio-descriptivo con enfoque cuantitativo y muestra no probabilística por conveniencia. Participaron 60 estudiantes del ciclo preclínico (5.º y 6.º semestres) que completaron un cuestionario semiestructurado adaptado de Shawahna et al. La recolección de datos se realizó entre abril y mayo de 2024. Resultados: El 66,7 % de los participantes reconoció correctamente que el TEA es un trastorno del desarrollo, el 93,0 % identificó el papel de los factores genéticos en su etiología y el 76,7 % rechazó la hipótesis de la causalidad vacunal. No obstante, el 43,3 % desconocía las dificultades específicas del TEA en comunicación y conducta, y el 75,0 % ignoraba que la risperidona y el aripiprazol cuentan con aprobación regulatoria para el tratamiento de la irritabilidad asociada al trastorno. Conclusiones: Los estudiantes exhiben un conocimiento básico aceptable sobre aspectos conceptuales y etiológicos del TEA, pero presentan déficits notorios en las áreas de epidemiología clínica y farmacología específica. Estos hallazgos señalan la necesidad de integrar contenidos curriculares más robustos sobre TEA en la formación médica de grado.
