This article intends to make a brief course on the history of women’s football in Rio de Janeiro between the 1940’s and the 1980’s, having as source some important newspapers of that time. Special importance will be given to Jornal do Brasil, O Globo and, mainly the Jornal dos Sports. The later stands out not only as a specialized vehicle in sports information, but also because it promotes sporting events. What this research looks for in these printed newspapers is the news and the representations about the practice of women’s football, in Rio de Janeiro, covering a period in which this modality was prohibited in Brazil. It is intended to demonstrate that, even illegally, many women played football, especially in the sands of Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro. From the beaches came championships and important clubs like the Radar, indispensable for a series of favorable voices to the liberation of women’s football, which occurred in the 1980’s.
