Abstract

La hernia de Amyand (Claudius Amyand 1680 – 1740), presencia del apéndice cecal dentro de un saco herniario inguinal, es una patología infrecuente, constituye menos del 1% de todas las hernias en adultos. El apéndice puede encontrarse perforado, con signos de inflamación en el 0.08% – 0.13%, o normal. Los pacientes presentan un cuadro clínico caracterizado por dolor abdominal de gran intensidad localizado en región inguinal, con presencia de masa. Al realizar el examen físico, podemos encontrar una hernia inguinal estrangulada o incarcerada, además de tener sintomatología inespecífica para un diagnóstico de apendicitis aguda. Es recomendable que todos los pacientes con dolor y protrusión inguinal acudan a los controles para la respectiva valoración y programación quirúrgica de su patología, y con mayor razón aquellos pacientes con comorbilidades. El realizar una intervención quirúrgica programada reduce complicaciones, estancia hospitalaria y costo económico para el Estado. El personal de salud debe realizar una valoración completa prequirúrgica de emergencia para tener un diagnóstico claro y evitar errores al no considerar esta patología por ser poco frecuente.
