Monitoreo continuo de glucosa es precisión en diabetes

Abstract

La diabetes mellitus (DM) comprende un espectro muy amplio y heterogéneo de una enfermedad que puede llegar a ser devastadora. Según la Federación Internacional de Diabetes, existen actualmente más de 500 millones de personas con diabetes en el mundo, y las complicaciones macro y microvasculares van en aumento. Es por esto que se ha utilizado por varios años la hemoglobina glicosilada (A1c) como parámetro de control metabólico, que es un promedio de tres meses de la glucemia, pero ello no permite evidenciar las excursiones y variabilidad de la glucosa en el día a día, conocido factor que determina el daño a los órganos. Actualmente, se cuenta con sistemas de monitoreo continuo de glucosa (MCG), que pueden medir la glucosa intersticial en tiempo real, lo cual ha demostrado optimizar el manejo de la diabetes, disminuir la variabilidad de la glucosa y, de esta forma, se reducirían las complicaciones a mediano y largo plazo.
