
"El cáncer de próstata sigue siendo el segundo cáncer más comúnmente diagnosticado en los hombres, con un estimado de 1,1 millones de diagnósticos en todo el mundo en 2012, representando alrededor del 15% de todos los cánceres diagnosticados. La incidencia del diagnóstico de cáncer de próstata varía ampliamente entre diferentes áreas geográficas, siendo más alta en Australia/Nueva Zelanda y América del Norte, y en Europa Occidental y del Norte, en gran parte debido al uso del PSA para el tamizaje de detección de cáncer de próstata y al envejecimiento de la población. El cáncer de próstata es el más común en los hombres de Ecuador y, para el año 2020, el Registro Nacional de Tumores de la Sociedad de Lucha contra el Cáncer (SOLCA) Quito estima que habrá 3.601 nuevos pacientes con esta enfermedad. Quito ocupa el primer puesto con (59,3 casos por 100.000 habitantes), seguido por Cuenca (44,7), Loja (36,6), Guayaquil (27,8) y Manabí (19,7)."
