Abstract

El cáncer cervicouterino, una enfermedad prevenible y tratable, se origina en las células del cuello uterino, principalmente a causa del Virus del Papiloma Humano (VPH). La vacunación contra el VPH y las citologías regulares son cruciales para la prevención. Los síntomas como sangrado vaginal anormal, dolor pélvico o flujo inusual deben ser atendidos de inmediato. La detección temprana a través de citologías permite identificar células precancerosas y actuar a tiempo. El tratamiento, que varía según la etapa, puede incluir cirugía, radioterapia o quimioterapia. Factores de riesgo como el inicio temprano de la actividad sexual, múltiples parejas sexuales y el tabaquismo aumentan las probabilidades de desarrollar la enfermedad. Las mujeres entre 30 y 54 años son las más propensas. Lamentablemente, el cáncer cervicouterino es la segunda causa de muerte por cáncer en mujeres jóvenes en algunos países, especialmente en aquellos con bajos recursos, donde el acceso a la prevención y el tratamiento es limitado. Sin embargo, la esperanza reside en la detección temprana y el tratamiento oportuno, que pueden salvar vidas.
