Sintiencia extendida. Esquema corporal y realidad virtual.

Abstract

La tesis de la mente extendida sostiene que algunas capacidades cognitivas se pueden extender más allá del cuerpo. En este trabajo se argumentará a favor de que la sintiencia, entendida como la capacidad de sentir, puede extenderse más allá del cuerpo físico en escenarios de realidad virtual inmersiva, en virtud de la extensión del esquema corporal de los sujetos, de manera análoga a la tesis de la extensión de la mente, buscando saber con ello bajo qué condiciones la sintiencia puede ser extendida más allá de la piel del individuo. La conclusión de este argumento será apoyada por la premisa de que la sintiencia y esquema corporal se implican mutuamente, así como por la existencia de evidencia de modificaciones del esquema corporal, propiciadas por el uso de avatares en escenarios virtuales inmersivos. Para llevar esto a cabo, primero se plantearán las definiciones de sintiencia y esquema corporal; posteriormente se revisará la evidencia sobre modificación del esquema corporal en la realidad virtual inmersiva, y se examinarán algunos retos para esta postura.
