Abstract

intro_obj: La controversia sobre los implantes mamarios de silicona ha llevado a buscar sustitutos adecuados que sean seguros y flexibles pero lo suficientemente firmes para mantener su forma. El hidrogel está siendo evaluado como una alternativa a los implantes de gel de silicona. Unos 23.500 implantes mamarios de hidrogel han sido implantados desde 1992 hasta 1998, en todo el mundo y sus resultados postoperatorios valorados. Después de un primer período en que el 10% de los implantes sufrieron algún tipo de rouira, se aplicó una nueva tecnología lo cual permitió rebajar esa cifra al 1%. Los resultados visuales, según apreciación de pacientes y cirujanos, fueron positivos. Los resultados palpables son menos favorables que con los implantes de gel de silicona pero mejores que con los implantes rellenos de suero. Al ser el hidrogel biocompatible, si los componentes del relleno escaparan de su envoltura, no son tóxicos pues es un biomaterial al cual se le añade agua para lograr un punto de equilibrio e imitar la consistencia del tejido vivo. El hidrogel se presenta cómo un sustituto favorable del gel de silicona.
