Abstract

La transición de las impresiones dentales convencionales hacia los escáneres intraorales ha generado un cambio significativo en la práctica odontológica. Esta revisión integrativa analizó 50 estudios publicados entre 2015 y 2025 para comparar la precisión, la eficiencia clínica y la percepción del paciente entre ambos métodos. La evidencia demuestra que los escáneres intraorales ofrecen una exactitud igual o superior a las técnicas tradicionales en restauraciones unitarias y parciales, mientras que en rehabilitaciones de arco completo aún persisten desafíos relacionados con la distorsión acumulada y la ausencia de referencias anatómicas en pacientes edéntulos. En términos de eficiencia clínica, los flujos digitales reducen el tiempo de trabajo y simplifican los procedimientos, lo que se traduce en mejores experiencias para el profesional. Asimismo, los pacientes manifiestan una clara preferencia por las impresiones digitales gracias al mayor confort y la ausencia del reflejo nauseoso típico de las técnicas con materiales elastoméricos. A pesar de los avances tecnológicos, factores como la iluminación, la curva de aprendizaje del operador y la estrategia de escaneo influyen significativamente en los resultados. Las impresiones convencionales siguen siendo una opción confiable en casos complejos, especialmente en rehabilitaciones extensas sobre implantes múltiples. En conjunto, la impresión digital se posiciona como el estándar preferente en la práctica contemporánea, sin desplazar completamente la utilidad de las técnicas convencionales en situaciones específicas.
