The presence of pain secondary to trauma, inflammation, osteodegenerative pathologies, or muscle pathologies are very common clinical manifestations, and in the face of this symptomatology, the use of anti-inflammatories and analgesics is a daily habit. The population selfmedicates with these drugs, ignoring the pathophysiological mechanisms and possible adverse reactions of these drugs. In this update on anti-inflammatories from the Arterial Hypertension Committee of the Argentine Federation of Cardiology, the classification, pathophysiology and mechanisms of action of non-steroidal anti-inflammatories, their effects on blood pressure, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and renal disease, and fundamentally, cardiovascular safety will be reviewed.
