
This article explores the importance of adopting hybrid methodologies in IT project management by integrating traditional frameworks—particularly Waterfall and PMI/PMBOK—with agile approaches such as Scrum and Kanban to enhance predictability and minimize risks. By combining a systematic literature review of indexed sources (Scopus and Web of Science) with the author’s more than 15 years of practical experience across multiple sectors, the study provides a comprehensive perspective on how these methodologies complement one another in addressing the challenges inherent to IT project management. The findings indicate that methodological hybridization, when approached with well-defined criteria and conceptual clarity, not only mitigates the intrinsic risks associated with IT projects but also improves the predictability of scope, schedule, and cost outcomes. It is concluded that the key to success lies in the appropriate configuration of the project governance framework and in the development of teams with blended methodological competencies.
