Lactante hipotónico

Abstract

Lactante hipotónico se define como aquel lactante que, desde el periodo neonatal o primeros meses de vida, presenta movilidad reducida y disminución del tono muscular con o sin debilidad. En el presente artículo se pretende brindar una guía ordenada para el estudio y diagnóstico precoz del lactante con hipotonía, especialmente en aquellos pacientes que tengan patologías con terapias modificadoras de la enfermedad, y al mismo tiempo aclarar conceptos básicos sobre la exploración y diagnóstico inicial del lactante hipotónico, enfocándonos exclusivamente en aspectos recogidos mediante la anamnesis, exploración y pruebas complementarias, que son pilares fundamentales para realizar correctamente el diagnóstico de la hipotonía en el lactante. Se realizará un resumen de las principales enfermedades que puedan manifestarse con hipotonía, como síntoma guía, facilitando algunos datos clínicos “clave” para la adecuada clasificación y enfoque diagnóstico. Actualmente, es de vital importancia la identificación del lactante hipotónico, ya que existen patologías, como la atrofia muscular espinal (AME), con terapias modificadoras de la enfermedad, y su respuesta al tratamiento dependerá de la rapidez con que se diagnostique.
