Complementos alimenticios (suplementos nutricionales)

Abstract

El consumo de los habitualmente (y equívocamente) denominados suplementos nutricionales está en alza, según reza en el informe de la Federación Española de Industrias de la Alimentación y Bebidas: El sector de los complementos alimenticios en España a examen(1), de 2024. A ello contribuye el desconocimiento de su reglamentación por gran parte de los consumidores y de los profesionales, su venta en las oficinas de farmacia sin receta médica, supermercados, tiendas de alimentación ecológica y hasta gimnasios, y, sin duda, las agresivas campañas de publicidad de sus empresas productoras y distribuidoras. Su consumo, más allá de superfluo, salvo en determinados casos, puede acabar siendo nocivo, no solo debido a su contenido, sino al hecho de menospreciar las recomendaciones de estilo de vida y, en su caso, la medicación prescrita.
