Las murallas de Segovia en la Alta Edad Media. Una interpretación constructiva

Abstract

Tradicionalmente se atribuye la construcción de la muralla de Segovia al Rey Alfonso VI, repoblador de la ciudad en 1088. No existe ningún vestigio arqueológico, salvo el hallazgo de dos capiteles califales descontextualizados y algún indicio de la toponimia local para permitirnos afirmar que existió una Segovia musulmana. Este trabajo plantea la hipótesis de la existencia de una fortificación hispanomusulmana previa a la reconquista de la ciudad fundamentando dicha afirmación en los resultados del análisis realizados sobre la morfología de las torres, sus dimensiones, la modulación de los lienzos, los sistemas constructivos, materiales y los aparejos empleados en sus murallas. A nuestro entender, este estudio pone en evidencia la persistencia de algunos fragmentos de una cerca previa que reconocemos en las partes bajas de la muralla actual, vestigios que podemos relacionar con otras murallas hispanomusulmanas de los siglos IX y X.
