Faringitis

Abstract

La faringitis, entendida como la inflamación de las mucosas de la faringe, tiene por causa más frecuente los procesos infecciosos víricos, pese a lo cual se siguen empleando frecuentemente los antibióticos en su tratamiento. El facultativo, basándose en su experiencia clínica y apoyado en escalas diagnósticas, seleccionará a los pacientes a los que realizará pruebas de diagnóstico rápido para instaurar tratamiento con penicilina o amoxicilina, que siguen siendo los antibióticos de elección. La laringitis es, asimismo, otro problema de salud de etiología vírica mayoritaria y que constituye un motivo de frecuente consulta en Atención Primaria, sobre todo en niños de hasta 3 años y con marcado patrón de estacionalidad. El presente artículo pretende revisar, desde un prisma clínico, las principales características de ambas patologías, centrando en foco en sus causas, manifestaciones y tratamiento.
