Foldit VR

the process of converting a desktop application into VR : a thesis in Computer Science
Authors: Christopher Ferreira;
Abstract

The application Foldit is a popular educational and scientific tool used to instruct students about proteins and protein folding as well as conduct research into protein folding. As well-made as itis, Foldit is not appealing to every student, which may reduce its ability to effectively educate these students. This project involves the creation of a base application in Unity with which Foldit can be ported to a VR platform. The Unity application is made using assets created by myself as well as default assets found within the Unity VR package, which is made to mimic the Foldit application to the best of my ability. The scripts used in the functionality of many of the project’s components are created using C#. A Meta Quest 2 is used in the development and testing of the application, which is set to developer mode and integrated with the Unity application via a link cable. The application is only being developed for the Meta Quest 2 as there is currently no way to test the application for other devices.
