Nanografenos moleculares: el legado del benceno en la química del carbono

Abstract

Este artículo describe la versatilidad estructural del carbono y la evolución conceptual desde el benceno hasta los nanomateriales de carbono. Expone el papel de la aromaticidad, desde las propuestas de Kekulé hasta las reglas de Hückel y Clar, y cómo estos principios explican estabilidad y reactividad en hidrocarburos aromáticos policíclicos. Analiza el surgimiento del grafeno y otros materiales 2D, así como el desarrollo de nanografenos con propiedades electrónicas modulables mediante tamaño, bordes y defectos. Se detalla la relevancia de la quiralidad en nanografenos moleculares y la influencia de las barreras de racemización en sus propiedades ópticas. Finalmente, se destacan las bicapas quirales y cómo el grado de solapamiento controla su comportamiento electroquímico y optoelectrónico.
