DIPLOMACIA CULTURAL E A SEMANA DE 22: arte moderna e as imagens do Brasil ao mundo

Abstract

O artigo tem como finalidade analisar de que maneira a Semana de Arte Moderna de 1922 se tornou um instrumento de diplomacia cultural do Brasil. Observa-se que o evento ocorreu em um contexto nacional e internacional de agitação sociopolítica que não foram propícios ao protagonismo da Semana. Apenas décadas mais tarde, ao final da II Guerra Mundial, a partir da instituição de políticas nacionais nas áreas cultural e externa sistemáticas durante a Era Vargas e da necessidade de manter proximidade com os Estados Unidos, a Semana de 22 foi resgatada pelo Estado, passou a ser elevada a um patamar de símbolo nacional, indicativo de um país moderno, industrializado, com potencial, que falava uma língua universal e caminhava no compasso dos países desenvolvidos e que, assim, tinha uma contribuição relevante ao mundo.
