Despite the current social concern about the abuse of women, psychological violence, especially verbal aggression, has not received as much attention as physical or sexual violence; perhaps because it is more subtle, perhaps because it is less visible or appreciable in the social environment, being words used in privacy of own home; maybe, for having been minimized by that same social context. This text wants to address the analysis of verbal abuse in the Spain of Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries, in order to establish comparisons, ―without falling, as far as possible, in anachronisms―, on attitudes and procedures of the lead or supporting actors, in episodes of violence in marriage.
