Las olas de calor marinas son eventos de calentamiento oceánico extremos. Han aumentado en frecuencia, duración e intensidad en todo el mundo, con impactos nocivos para los ecosistemas costeros y las actividades humanas. En el mar Mediterráneo, el rápido calentamiento superficial se ha asociado a un fuerte incremento en los días de olas de calor, particularmente en las dos últimas décadas.
