Abstract

El aire, mezcla de gases indispensable para la vida, no siempre está en las mejores condiciones para respirarlo. Siempre ha existido cierto grado de contaminación natural, que pro-viene de fenómenos como la erupción de los volcanes (que arroja a la atmósfera cenizas y grandes cantidades de dióxido de azufre, SO2, que puede generar lluvia ácida), o bien, tormentas de arena que llenan el aire con partículas suspendidas. Afortunadamente la naturaleza mantiene un equilibrio que preserva al medioambiente en condiciones adecuadas para la vida. Los problemas de contaminación surgen cuando ese equilibrio se pierde (muchas veces por la intervención del hombre), y aunque la mayor parte de la contaminación se genera en las zonas urbanas, el problema afecta a todo el mundo.
