Sustentabilidade ambiental da carcinicultura no Brasil: desafios para a pesquisa

Abstract

O crescimento da carcinicultura em todo o mundo, e em especial no Nordeste brasileiro, temsuscitado debates acirrados sobre a sustentabilidade ambiental dessa atividade em longo prazo e as vulnerabilidades dos ecossistemas brasileiros frente a grande quantidade e dimensão dos investimentos nessa área. Isso se deve às crises ambientais associadas ao rápido crescimento da atividade de carcinicultura em países como Taiwan, China e Equador. Nesses países, a degradação dos ecossistemas estuarinos contribuiu na proliferação de doenças e conseqüente queda de produção da atividade. Esse artigo tem como objetivo avaliar os possíveis impactosambientais da carcinicultura, realizar um levantamento inicial das ações de pesquisa existentesnessa área e propor esforços de pesquisa no equacionamento das questões ambientais levantadas. São analisados os problemas ambientais relacionados às atividades de larvicultura, engorda e beneficiamento do camarão e propostas linhas de pesquisa que somem esforços nas discussões sobre a sustentabilidade da atividade nas microbacias em que estão inseridas.
