The IDEAHL project (Improving Digital Empowerment for Active Healthy Living) received funding from the Horizon Europe program under grant agreement no. 101057477 and was implemented by 14 multidisciplinary partners. One of its main objectives was to empower the European population to develop their digital health literacy skills. This article focuses on the co-creation phase of the project’s activities, as well as the strategy for European digital literacy, particularly the sessions conducted by Cáritas Coimbra, in Portugal. A total of 140 sessions were carried out with 1,434 participants by the project partners. Specifically, Cáritas Coimbra organized 6 sessions with older adults and individuals in vulnerable situations, as well as 22 interviews with formal and informal caregivers, social service providers, and healthcare professionals, aA total of 73 participants took part, 67 of whom had their participation validated for data analysis. All groups highlighted the importance and necessity of training and education to prepare for digitalization, initiatives to address access barriers and vulnerabilities, and the critical role of seeking health-related information. On the other hand, many participants noted that digital health literacy is not perceived as an immediate necessity and expressed concerns about the use and advancement of technology, both in personal and professional contexts.
