Hyperhidrosis is a skin disease characterized by pathologically excessive sweating. Aetiologically, hyperhidrosis is divided into a primary idiopathic form and a secondary form caused by concurrent diseases or medication use. The prevalence of primary hyperhidrosis is 4-5%. The Danish Dermatological Society updated the national guidelines on hyperhidrosis in 2024, and new recommendations comprise topical glycopyrronium bromide for focal hyperhidrosis and oral glycopyrrolate as first-line systemic therapy due to milder side effects than other oral anticholinergics, as argued in this review.
