Deterioro Cognitivo en Adultos Mayores con Polifarmacia

Abstract

El envejecimiento es un cambio que ocurre en el ser humano, provocando cambios fisiológicos en cualquier parte del cuerpo, que pueden tener efectos externos y funcionales, como la aparición de patologías, que conducen a una degradación funcional. Una de las principales patologías de la vejez es el deterioro cognitivo, definido como una disminución de la función cerebral que afecta la capacidad de procesar pensamientos y memoria. En adultos mayores con comorbilidades, la polifarmacia es frecuente y se ha asociado con fragilidad, caídas y deterioro cognitivo. El objetivo de este estudio fue conocer la prevalencia de deterioro cognitivo en pacientes con polifarmacia adscritos al Hospital General de Subzona con Medicina Familiar No. 8. Material y Método: Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, transversal, prospectivo en pacientes mayores de 60 años en consulta externa de medicina familiar. Se aplicó un cuestionario para obtener datos sociodemográficos, crónico-degenerativos, consumo y tipo de fármacos, el examen Mini-Mental (MMSE) considerando deterioro cognitivo probable con puntuación <24. El análisis se efectuó en SPSS v.27, estadística descriptiva. Resultados: Se incluyeron 372 pacientes de 60 a 102 años (mediana 71), 47% hombres y 53% mujeres. Los medicamentos más prescritos fueron antihipertensivos (74,5%) e hipoglucemiantes (68,1%). El 33.1% presentó deterioro cognitivo; Sin embargo, no se encontró asociación estadísticamente significativa entre polifarmacia y deterioro cognitivo (p=0,04). Las enfermedades cardiovasculares fueron las más frecuentes en ambos grupos. Conclusión: no hubo relación entre polifarmacia y deterioro cognitivo
