The study discusses the most significant factors that affect academic achievement and academic failure among university students, based on the feedback of 177 students enrolled in an online study modality. The study employs a quantitative research approach and discusses how various factors impact the academic performance of students. Based on the findings, it is evident that low interaction with the instructors and students and poor time management are major reasons for academic failure. Specifically, students reported that they were struggling to strike a balance between studies due to time constraints and could not relate to the virtual learning platform, and this had a negative impact on their engagement and academic performance. These findings highlight the need for good time management and communication skills in enabling students' academic success, particularly in virtual learning environments. The study emphasizes the need for universities to act on such issues by initiating tailored support programs that aim at enhancing student motivation and enhanced time management skills.
