International and national guidelines emphasize the importance of exclusive breastfeeding until six months and its continuation until at least two years, highlighting its vitality for the survival and health of children. However, in Brazil, despite the increased prevalence of breastfeeding, adherence rates are still inadequate, with early weaning persistence. Biologically speaking, breast milk, rich in nutrients and immunoglobulins, plays a crucial role in the protection against diseases and healthy development of the baby. In addition, prolonged breastfeeding is associated with increasing benefits for the health of the child, including strengthening the immune system. Health professionals, especially nursing staff, play a key role in promoting and supporting breastfeeding, providing emotional and informational support to mothers during the postpartum period. Therefore, it is essential that health services are actively involved in the defense and promotion of this practice to ensure the physical and emotional well-being of mothers and their babies.
