Información preliminar para mejorar el manejo del cultivo de rana toro a escala comercial en Sinaloa, México

Abstract

En la acuicultura, el crecimiento es uno de los factores de mayor relevancia para lograr una mayor rentabilidad. Estimar el crecimiento es una estrategia que permite gestionar y optimizar los procesos productivos en la acuicultura moderna. En este artículo, el modelo de Ruíz-Velasco diseñado para organismos bajo condiciones de cultivo fue ajustado a los datos del crecimiento de rana toro (Lithobathes catesbeianus) cultivado en estanques de flujo continuo de agua aumentando la producción al doble de lo que maneja el productor. Para su análisis, se sembraron 1000 juveniles de rana toro de 1.7 ± 0.81 g en un tanque de 16 m2 bajo condiciones operativas comerciales. Las ranas se alimentaron dos veces al día al 5% de su biomasa estimada con una dieta para trucha por un periodo de 45 días. Se reporta la primera información detallada sobre algunos parámetros biológicos de crecimiento de rana toro bajo condiciones reales de cultivo a escala comercial en México. Se demuestra que el modelo de Ruíz-Velasco puede estimar el crecimiento de rana toro en condiciones comerciales de cultivo. Se ajustó la relación longitud-peso para determinar el tipo de crecimiento observado. Los resultados acerca del modelo ajustado en este estudio solo son aplicables para el intervalo 1.7 a 60 g de peso y representan un primer paso para disponer de datos e información y proponer programas de investigación para optimizar el cultivo de rana en México.
