Principio de dignidad en la atención obstétrica

Abstract

Obstetric violence is a global issue that manifests in physical, verbal, and psychological acts against women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. In Colombia, despite the existence of regulations aimed at protecting reproductive rights, there are still gaps in their effective implementation. This study analyzes the principle of dignity in obstetric care and its role in identifying and preventing this type of violence. Colombian regulations, including Statutory Law 1751 of 2015 and Law 2244 of 2022, are examined to assess their impact on women’s rights protection. Through the analysis of cases and decisions from medical ethics tribunals, patterns of obstetric violence are identified, and recommendations are proposed to strengthen obstetric care in the country. The research concludes that human dignity must be the core of medical practices and that a comprehensive approach is necessary to ensure respect and equity in obstetric care.
