Evaluación de la actividad tripanocida de extractos obtenidos de especies vegetales colombianas

Abstract

La enfermedad de Chagas causada por la infección por Trypanosoma cruzi, es una patología crónica que afecta a millones de personas en Colombia y Latinoamérica. Los tratamientos disponibles para esta enfermedad son poco efectivos en la fase crónica, existiendo aún una opinión dividida frente a su uso y su efectividad. Los productos naturales obtenidos a partir de especies vegetales constituyen una alternativa al tratamiento de la infección. Colombia, es una fuente importante en la búsqueda de estos productos. En este trabajo, se evaluó la actividad tripanocida sobre epimastigotes del aislado 058PUJ de T. cruzi, a partir de extractos totales de hojas obtenidos de Siparuna sessiliflora, Rosmarinus officinalis y Clethra fimbriata. Así, se sometieron 4x105 epimastigotes a concentraciones decrecientes de cada extracto y se determinó la viabilidad mediante el método colorimétrico de MTT. Se encontró actividad tripanocida para los tres extractos con una concentración de inhibición del 50% de la viabilidad de los parásitos a las 48 horas de 105,00 μg/mL para S. sessiliflora, de 257,00 μg/mL para R. officinalis y de 99,63 μg/mL para C. Fimbriata y a las 72 horas, de 115,80 μg/mL para R. officinalis. Estos hallazgos sugieren que el screening preliminar de los extractos totales de hojas de S. sessiliflora, R. officinalis y C. fimbriata, muestran que los productos naturales obtenidos a partir de especies vegetales colombianas son una fuente importante en la búsqueda de compuestos que pueden servir para el control de la infección por T. cruzi. ; Chagas disease, caused by Trypanosoma cruzi infection, is a chronic disease that affects millions of people in Colombia and Latin America.
