Abstract

Resumo: A partir do século XIX as aparições marianas assumiram uma nova ordem simbólica, mais associada ao reforço da fé enquanto doutrina. Talvez por isso a figura de Maria, nesta fase da Modernidade tardia, surge geralmente ligada às grandes aparições e respectivas mensagens, em ligação com o clima social e mental destes dois últimos séculos, tendo em conta o contexto marcado pelo iluminismo, o racionalismo, o anticlericalismo, e a secularização das sociedades.
