El 8 de agosto de 1916 se inauguraba en Niagara (Ontario, Canada) el primer teleferico para pasajeros de toda Norteamerica, el “Niagara Spanish Aerocar”. Habia sido construido por una empresa espanola (en concreto, vasca) registrada en Canada, The Niagara Spanish Aerocar Company, con capital espanol (prioritariamente, vizcaino; en menor medida, tambien cantabro), administradores espanoles, ingeniero constructor espanol, material transportado desde Espana a Canada durante la I Guerra Mundial (por ejemplo, la barquilla para los pasajeros), explotacion comercial inicial espanola: en suma, I+D+i de hace cien anos.
