RESUMEN Los fabricantes de automoviles buscan reducir las emisiones y aligerar el vehiculo. Los aceros inoxidables austeniticos son una buena opcion ya que, combinan alta resistencia con excelente conformabilidad. En este articulo se describe la caracterizacion de los aceros inoxidables AISI-304, AISI-301LN y ASI-316L, midiendo la cantidad de martensita inducida por deformacion. Para ello, se emplearon distintas tecnicas (metodos metalograficos, difraccion de rayos X y ferritoscopio) y se determino la correlacion entre los resultados experimentales y los teoricos, que resulto lineal. Los resultados muestran que la laminacion en frio es una tecnica apropiada para aumentar la resistencia del material, aprovechando las particularidades de la transformacion martensitica.
