Abstract

The development of flamenco as a national art has been unstoppable as well as significant due to its adaptive character and folkloric appeal. Part of its history, specifically the queer one, has lived in darkness for a long time due to political and social causes. With the historical study of the choreological trajectory, fused to the political and social contexts of Spain, we will see how queer flamenco was born, from its clandestine beginnings to become a cultural movement with its own identity. With this work we intend to give visibility, to emphasize its pedagogical value through scenic activity, its power of social inclusion and resilience. It also aims to value the resistance of our queer ancestors, who were marginalized for maintaining a sexual identity outside the normative: popular artists, artists in the shadows and anonymous agents who struggled to maintain their identity. A response to this resistance is the voice of contemporary queer creators who act in the field of flamenco, achieving a well-deserved universe of their own.
