Tantangan Bertani di Lahan Gambut Desa Kayu Bawang

Abstract

Lahan gambut di Indonesia memiliki peran yang sangat penting dalam menjaga ekosistem dan keseimbangan lingkungan. Namun, bertani di lahan gambut menghadapi tantangan yang cukup kompleks, seperti kondisi tanah yang asam, rawan kerusakan, dan pengelolaan air yang sulit. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi tantangan yang dihadapi petani di Desa Kayu Bawang, Kecamatan Gambut, Kabupaten Banjar, Kalimantan Selatan, serta mencari solusi untuk meningkatkan produktivitas pertanian di lahan gambut. Metode penelitian melibatkan observasi langsung, wawancara dengan petani, serta analisis data menggunakan triangulasi sumber. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kondisi tanah gambut cenderung masam dan kurang subur, dengan tantangan utama berupa pengelolaan air yang sulit akibat tingginya permukaan air. Petani menggunakan varietas padi seperti Siam Mayang dan Siam Sekumpul yang lebih sesuai dengan karakteristik tanah gambut. Selain itu, penggunaan pupuk seperti NPK 16 Mutiara membantu menjaga kesuburan tanah selama masa tanam. Meskipun petani telah berusaha beradaptasi dengan berbagai metode pengelolaan, tantangan seperti hanya satu kali panen dalam setahun masih menjadi kendala utama. Oleh karena itu, strategi yang lebih berkelanjutan, seperti pengelolaan air yang efektif dan penerapan teknologi yang mendukung, sangat diperlukan untuk meningkatkan produktivitas pertanian di lahan gambut secara berkelanjutan.
