Estado nutricional de adultos con diabetes mellitus tipo 2 bajo intervención con dieta baja en carbohidratos

Abstract

Introducción: La diabetes mellitus tipo 2 (DM2) es una enfermedad metabólica crónica de alta prevalencia mundial, estrechamente vinculada con la malnutrición por exceso en la población adulta. La dieta baja en carbohidratos (DBC) surge como una estrategia terapéutica eficaz para mejorar el estado nutricional y el control metabólico en DM2. Objetivo: Evaluar el impacto de una intervención nutricional con DBC sobre el perfil antropométrico de adultos con DM2 en consulta externa. Métodos: Estudio cuasiexperimental, longitudinal, con 76 pacientes de 34 a 65 años atendidos en el Hospital General “Dr. Napoleón Dávila Córdova”, Manabí, Ecuador, durante 2025. Se aplicó una DBC personalizada con una meta de 130 g/día de carbohidratos durante 12 semanas, con evaluaciones antropométricas en las semanas 0, 6 y 12. Resultados: El 93.4% presentó malnutrición por exceso al inicio. Tras la intervención, el peso disminuyó de 77.55 kg a 76.10 kg (W = 119.000; p = 0.000), el IMC de 30.62 kg/m² a 29.41 kg/m² (W = 111.000; p = 0.000) y el perímetro de cintura de 95.25 cm a 94.65 cm (W = 757.000; p = 0.039). Conclusión: La DBC de 130 g/día durante 12 semanas mejora significativamente los indicadores antropométricos en adultos con DM2 y es viable y segura en el primer nivel de atención.
