Abstract

O artigo tem o propósito de convidar a uma reflexão sobre a teoria das pulsões. Tomando como assertiva que as vicissitudes da economia pulsional constituem o elemento fundamental da metapsicologia, tenta revalorizar o papel desempenhado pelas pulsões na vida mental e sua inserção na teoria psicanalítica. Destaca a peculiaridade deste conceito e sua distinção daquele de instinto. O autor enfoca duas grandes tradições, organizadas em torno das concepções de pulsão de vida e de morte, destacando o predomínio das pulsões sexuais na metapsicologia freudiana, e das pulsões de morte, na metapsicologia kleiniana. O autor tenta colocar em evidência algumas diferenças na concepção da sexualidade e da destrutividade, nestas duas tradições fundamentais da psicanálise contemporânea. Sugere a necessidade de pensar-se numa coexistência destas duas forças, sem considerar-se, a priori, o predomínio de uma sobre a outra.
