LA FALACIA DEL ARGUMENTO CRONOLÓGICO

Abstract

Este trabajo es una reflexión acerca de los conceptos de modernidad y progreso y los peligros de utilizar un argumento cronológico como prueba de que una posición científica, filosófica, histórica o artística es más avanzada que otra. En psicología esta argumentación cobra una especial relevancia a la hora de justificar las posiciones cognitivistas como una superación de las conductistas. En las siguientes páginas se ilustra con diversos ejemplos la falacia del argumento cronológico y se plantea a modo de ejemplo la supuesta modernidad de las terapias de tercera generación, que si ocupan este lugar lo hacen precisamente por lo que suponen de vuelta a los planteamientos más tradicionales del conductismo radical y del aprendizaje operante: el interés en la posición skinneriana sobre conducta verbal, la definición de la conducta como una contingencia de tres términos, la diferenciación del aprendizaje por reglas y por contingencias o el quehacer terapéutico como un proceso de condicionamiento verbal.
