Why is mathematics identified as a prerequisite to engineering? It is true that engineers deal with tangible things like concrete, machine parts, and steel beams and that a good working knowledge of basic mathematics is essential to manipulate these building blocks into dams, machines, and structures. But there is a great deal more to engineering than playing with blocks.
