The slide rule is very satisfactory for finding square roots accurate to three significant digits. There are situations, however, in which a more accurate root is desired. The method given below will enable the operator to use his slide rule in combination with ordinary division or with a computing machine to find roots to 6, 8, 12 or more significant digits.
