Abstract

ABSTRACTObjective: During adolescence, the family environment and parenting styles play a crucial role in shaping psychosocial adjustment, influencing the development and expression of aggressive behaviors. The aim of this study was to examine the predictive role of parenting styles on aggressive behavior during adolescence. Method: A quantitative approach was employed using a nonexperimental cross-sectional design with an explanatory scope. The sample consisted of 355 adolescents. The Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire (PSDQ) and the Cuestionario de Agresión Premeditada e Impulsiva en Adolescentes (CAPI-A) were administered. Results: Descriptive analyses revealed a predominance of the authoritarian parenting style (80.2%) and a higher prevalence of impulsive aggressive behaviors (51.9%). The authoritarian parenting style showed greater predictive power compared to permissive and democratic parenting styles, with the latter demonstrating the lowest explanatory capacity for aggressive behaviors.
