Cuantificación de errores de posicionado de electrodos electroencefalográficos

Abstract

Biochemical exchanges between neurons in the brain produce a small electrical activity detectable with the placement of electrodes on the scalp. In recent years, new non-invasive brain stimulation techniques are appearing which, based on neuromodulation, allow the treatment of pathologies such as pain or depression. One of the target regions where these techniques are usually applied is in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and the result of these procedures depends on the correct and precise location of the point on the scalp close to this region. This study reviews the published articles to evaluate the discrepancies in the location in the DLPFC and quantify the differences between different authors. On the other hand, the study also quantifies differences between reference positions (in a realistic head) and the results of applying the international 10-20 electrode system placement in two MNI152 head models and in a head modelled as an ellipsoid.
