Identificação humana post mortem por meio da odontologia legal

Abstract

Em catástrofes que resultam em corpos carbonizados, dilacerados ou em decomposição a identificação humana torna-se um desafio e métodos clássicos como papiloscopia e análise genética, frequentemente, são inviáveis. Nesse cenário a Odontologia Legal (OL) pode contribuir bastante. Este estudo tem como objetivos apresentar os métodos de identificação post mortem (PM) utilizados pela OL, verificar suas aplicabilidades, limitações e demonstrar a importância dos registros odontológicos para estes métodos. A metodologia adotada foi revisão bibliográfica, com abordagem qualitativa e descritiva, mediante pesquisa ao PubMed, Scielo e Google Scholar, selecionando publicações de 2003 a 2025. Os estudos demonstraram que os dentes, por terem alta resistência ao calor e ao tempo, são usados na maioria dos métodos, em comparações com radiografias, tomografias ou registros de tratamentos odontológicos. Algumas técnicas, como análise da rugosidade palatina e da anatomia craniana (craniometria) chamaram a atenção. A Tomografia Computadorizada (TC) mostrou-se precisa na identificação, porém, ainda enfrenta limitações logísticas. O êxito destes métodos depende de registros odontológicos ante mortem detalhados, porém na sua falta ou mediante destruição de estruturas dentárias, o DNA da polpa dentária e fotografias de sorriso têm sido utilizadas com sucesso. Concluímos que os métodos que comparam dados PM com prontuários odontológicos e exames são os mais utilizados, eficientes e de baixo custo. O DNA da polpa é altamente confiável, embora seja oneroso e dependente de amostra de familiares. Portanto, cabe ao Odontolegista escolher o método mais rápido e preciso para identificar as vítimas, oferecendo assim aos familiares a chance de fechar um ciclo doloroso.
